Couples sessions
In couples therapy, the focus is on the relationship itself rather than on one partner alone. Challenges emerge from patterns within the couple, and lasting change requires the participation of both partners. Together, we explore these patterns, increase understanding, and develop healthier ways of connecting.
I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which helps partners recognise and shift negative interaction cycles, strengthen emotional bonds, and create secure connections. I also integrate an attachment-informed perspective and object-relations insights to understand how early relational experiences shape the way we relate today.
In therapy, couples learn to communicate more effectively, deepen intimacy, resolve conflicts, and build resilience together, transforming the relationship into a source of support, growth, and joy.
Couples that reach out to me often do so because of:
- Conflicts, lack of communication, or inability to solve issues or make decisions together
- Overcoming infidelity, betrayal, or lack of trust
- Premarital counselling and building a strong foundation
- Preparing to start a family and have a child
- Relationships with in-laws
- Sex issues, lack of intimacy, or different levels of sexual desire
- Divorce and separation
- Parenting and difficulties with children or teens
- Couples issues after having children
- Coparenting after separation, with focus on the children’s wellbeing
Intake
If you are new clients, contact me via the Contact page. You will both have to complete the intake form and read and sign the Informed Consent Form before your first session.
Discovery call(s)
- To clarify expectations, answer questions about the process and my qualifications, and sign Informed Consent.
- For me to learn as much as I can about both of you and the context of the challenges you experience.
- To explore your goal for our work together, although this can change.
- To define together the problems you are experiencing and lay out the direction of future sessions.
- This is also your chance to decide whether you want to continue working with me.
Regular sessions
Frequency is negotiated with you. At the start it is recommended at least once every two weeks. Please note that contact of one partner with me is only possible when we have agreed upon that in our couples sessions. I reserve the right to refuse individual support for one partner outside of the couples sessions.
Terminating therapy
You can terminate therapy at any point. If we have worked together for more than 5 sessions, it can be good (but not mandatory) to book a final session so the work can have closure.
